Sunday and Monday, Aug.22 & 23 were slow days, hawkwise at the Cranberry Marsh Raptor Watch. The area holds several resident N.Harriers & Red-taileds, along with a Cooper's & Peregrine, and recently there seems to be at least 1 Osprey that arrives to stay for a number of hours or days before taking off westward. 8 migrating raptors -- 1 Osprey, 1 Sharp-shinned, 1 Broad-winged, 3 Kestrel. 1 Merlin and 1 Unidentified Buteo.
To date, after 10 days of counting, the total has been 76 migrating raptors, most notable being 16 Ospreys and 36 Broad-winged Hawks. A Great Egret gets up in the air infrequently-- he has been in the wetland area for at least 2 weeks. On Sunday we had several warblers, but were able to identify only a Canada Warbler. CMRW is accessed from the last parking lot on the east side of Hall's Rd., north of the lakefront, in southwest Whitby. Doug Lockrey, coordinator CMRW
