Howdy,
During a hike at Short Hills Provincial Park in St. Catharines ON on
December 27, I was fortunate enough to come across a Great Gray Owl perched
on a branch roughly 5-6 feet from the ground. The owl stayed on its perch
for quite some time which allowed for a great view (always a treat!). I was
able to continuously view the bird, unobstructed, for a good 10-15 minutes
from a distance of about 30m, at ~ 3:00pm. There is no question regarding
the identity of the bird.
The bird was spotted in the section of field West of the junction of Trails
2,4, and 6 in Short Hills Provincial Park. This junction can be found at
the end of the gravel road/path section near the bulletin/map sign (follow
the road/path downhill when accessing the park from the Pelham rd entrance).
Short Hills Provincial Park is located just west of St. Catharines and can
be approached and accessed from Pelham rd.
Cheers
