Hello Ont.Birders
The male Eurasian Wigeon was still present yesterday, January 7th at the
DuPont Plant/Elevator Bay area. We observed the wigeon both early a.m. and
again at 2:30 p.m.
There was a good selection of water birds including 1 Canvasback, 175+
Redhead, 27 American Wigeon, 29 American Coot, 6 Common Loon and 1 Belted
Kingfisher. We did a quick check on Wolfe Island and observed 3 Short-eared
Owls, 1 Snow Goose, 3 Northern Pintail, 1 Great Blue Heron and 1 Bonaparte's
Gull. A total of 21 species of water fowl were observed between both
locations. On Saturday, January 6th, 10+ Long-eared Owls and 1 Northern
Saw-Whet owl were seen in the "Owl Woods" and 2 Snowy Owls were observed at
the east end of the island on the K.F.N. property. Anyone birding the "Owl
Woods" should consider rubber boots, the trails were very wet and muddy due
the mild conditions. If you require additional information, please email me
privately.
