Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours
Official Counter: Colin Horstead
Observers: Clive Hodder, Don Wigle, Kathy, Keith Sealy, Mary Carnahan,
Ronnie Goodhand
Visitors:
A few visitors today...including Tim McFarlane and Don Wigle.
Weather:
Some light drizzle to start the day ...but eventually the cloud ceiling
lifted and the sun broke through a few times. Temp still on the warm side
with a high of 16C. Winds finally had a north component though light from
the NE.
Raptor Observations:
Not a bad flight today with a total of 300 birds tallied. Nice to see that
the bulk of today's flight was actually Redtails (150). A few more
Red-shoulders (6) along with Goshawks (4) were nice to see. The real
highlight was observing 5 Golden Eagles within 30 minutes just before noon
along with 4 more before the end of the day for a total of 9.
Non-raptor Observations:
Flocks of passerines continued to move through the hawkwatch area
(blackbirds, robins, Am. Goldfinch)...a nice Fox sparrow, several E.
Bluebirds and a Hermit Thrush...and still a few Yellow-rumps flitting
around.
Predictions:
With solid E winds predicted tomorrow with a mix of sun and cloud there
could be a decent flight.
