Dan Kaczynski phoned me to tell me that the American Avocets could still be seen from the viewing platform at Oshawa Second Marsh.
I saw 8 of them around 12:30pm in the north end of the marsh. Scope recommended. Directions from Doug Lockrey's posting: Going east along the 401 use exit 419 (Harmony Road) to get on to Farewell St., travel south to Colonel Sam Dr. on the left-- drive, exiting into the GM parking area, driving right over to a spot above the walkway that leads down to the platform. I also saw the juvenile Hudsonian Godwit at Rotary Park, Ajax around 1:00pm. Directions from Geoff Carpentier's posting: 401 to Westney Rd., exit south and follow until you reach Lake Driveway, then turn right and follow it to Rotary Park. The mudflats are to the west and the trail follows the shore. The bird was visible from the western end of the bridge over Duffin's Creek on the north side.
