A total of eight visitors were out to the tower today - with regulars Olga Klekner and Jim McCoy. Weather: Overcast skies and Southeast to Southwest winds dominated the weather throughout the day. An overnight frost gave way to highs of 9C, with a few drops of rain and sun peaking through from time to time. Raptor Observations: It was a very slow day for raptor movement. The highlight was a Northern Goshawk in the first 15 minutes of the count. By noon the migration had dropped off to almost nothing and by 2 pm nothing was flying. Apparently some vultures passed, undetected, well to the north. Non-raptor Observations: 15 or so species of waterfowl, including first-of-fall Bufflehead. Bald Eagle- 2 (resident pair), Peregrine Falcon- 1 (juv. still hanging around), Blue Jay- 25, Am. Crow- 2,400, Am. Robin- 80, Cedar Waxwing- 115, Am. Goldfinch- 415. Predictions: A passing dry front overnight will bring cooler temps. and Northwest winds. Mostly to partly cloudy skies with Northwest winds at 10 to 15 mph. High of 9C. Raptors will be moving on favorable winds behind the front. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Justin Bosler ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
