Yesterday 18 people participated in the Saugeen
Shores CBC. The weather varied from sunshine
and shadows on the ground, to snow squalls and
drifting snow in parts of the count circle. The
temperature was -12 for most of the day.

50 species were observed but numbers were low.
Highlights included Golden Eagle, Glaucous Gull,
American Robin, Bohemian Waxwing, Belted
Kingfisher, and Oregon Junco.

A female Barrow's Goldeneye was found on the
Saugeen River in Paisley with 13 Common
Goldeneye. The female Commons present allowed
excellent comparisons of the head and bill.
Unfortunately, when birders returned to the
location (at the County Road 3 bridge) later in
the day, only 4 Common Goldeneye remained.

Although several Snowy Owls were in the area
around Christmas, not a single one was found on
the count.

Next year's count will be Wednesday, January 5th.

Good birding,
Cindy
Cartwright
