Yesterday at approximately 9am I was walking along the outer shoreline south of
the marina at Col. Sam Park ansd spotted a darkish gull nearly the size of a
Ring-bill with rapid wingbeats, a dark hood,
a dark grayish mantle without any mirrors, and a noticably contrasting white
edge to the rear of the wings, especially clear when the bird did a "spin" in
the air to check something floating on the water. It was headed in the general
direction of Marie Curtis Park across the bay. Could this be anything but an
adult Laughing gull? I did not report it because I was hoping that others had
seen it and could confirm the status of the bird. I mentioned it to Jean Iron
who was nearby scanning for Whimbrels, but by the time I reached where she was
it was out of sight. Please keep your eye out for this bird.
Col Sam Park is at the base of Kipling Avenue and the bird was seen west of the
parking lot on the peninsula south of the marina.
