Weather: Friday was a day of sun and light winds. Winds were from the north west and stayed moderate under 7mph. Visibility was one of the best we've had in few weeks. Simply a great day to be out. Raptor Observations: Another good push of Turkey Vultures, perhaps one of the last, came through with 1,820 for the day. Buteo numbers continue to move, especially with the Turkey Vulture groups. 10 Red-shouldered Hawks and 69 Red-tailed Hawks is fantastic. A late male American Kestrel came through at 4pm (EDST). Our best looks at Golden Eagle of the season came in at 4pm, a juvenile, which came straight across and low over the houses of Gibraltar, MI. A total of 1,942 raptors counted of 8 species. Non-raptor Observations: More and more American Crow flocks head out. Not much else of note. Predictions: Tomorrow will be an odd day. Cloudy all day is to be expected, and winds should be near nothing. This weekend is shaping up to be the warmest day of the week, topping off in the mid 70s. It's hard to say if tomorrow will be good for hawk watching. If it's too warm, and there is no wind to help out, the birds may not make a move. A evening Thunderstorm is likely to scare the birds put as well. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
