Observation start time: 09:30:00
Observation end time: 15:30:00
Total observation time: 6 hours

Official Counter: Rob Payne

Observers: Don Sherwood, John Elliott, Rodney Laura

Visitors:
A very nice group of dedicated hawk watchers joined us today. Crowds just
don't seem to show up in November.

Weather:
I feel we got very lucky on the weather today. Today I drove 60 miles to
get down here, and there was thick fog for the first 55 miles. For most of
the day the fog wall covered our view of the Detroit River and Canada,
making the Lake Erie horizon seem literally larger. The predicted warm
temperatures were felt nicely today, we saw a max of 56f. Winds continued
from the east but very lightly, there was an afternoon sway to the south.

Raptor Observations:
We had more migrant raptors today than the majority of this last work week.
Still the winds seemed to keep a lot of birds down, and the wall of fog
over Canada didn't help. At our lunchtime push we got a good helping of
Buteos. Consisting of 88 Red-tailed Hawks, 1 light morph Rough-legged Hawk,
and 1 Red-shouldered Hawk. We had all three Accipiters and 4 young Golden
Eagles for desert, legally.

A total of 117 raptors were counted of 12 species.

Non-raptor Observations:

Predictions:
Tomorrow the warm weather we have had should start to fade to a typical
November, but not immediately. Temperatures might hit 60f if the sun stays
out long enough. Fog is still a possibility for the morning, but afternoon
rain from the west is expected. These rains are due around sunset, but it
doesn't seem as the winds will shift to the west. Either way, if the
raptors know there is rain to the west will they fly there, plus the
easterly tail winds. I'm going to stay optimistic for a change in that
prediction.
