Today I spotted an immature Double Crested Cormorant perched and preening
itself on a stump alomg Canal Road just west of Hwy. 400, an unusual location
and date for this species. If it hangs around it would be a first record for
the Bradford CBC. Also on Dec. 1st there was a Cackling Goose in a flock of
Canadas flying over the Holland Marsh near Strawberry Lane and a Common Raven
being harassed by some Crows along keele Street north of Highway 9. North of
Bradford at Lefroy Harbour on Lake Simcoe there were at least 15 American
Widgeon and one male Northern Pintail amongst the Mallards also on Dec. 1.

Go north on Hwy 400 to Canal Road and exit. Turn left on to Canal Road and scan
the canal on the north side of the road for the cormorant. To observe the
ducks, go north on Hwy. 11 from Bradford and go right on Killarney Beach Road
and follow the signs to Lefroy Harbour where the road makes a sharp right an
then a sharp left right along the lake shore.
