Here are the Kingston Area birds for the past week. Nothing very rare to report.

Amherst Island
Highlights included 2 AMERICAN WIGEONS, 14 COMMON MERGANSERS, 4
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, AMERICAN BITTERN, NORTHERN HARRIER,
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, WILSON'S PHALAROPE, WILSON'S SNIPE, 7
SHORT-EARED OWLS and 45 BOBOLINKS.

Amherstview Sewage Lagoons
A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was at the lagoons last Sunday.

Charleston Lake Provincial Park
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, BARRED OWL, RED-BELLIED
WOODPECKER, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, 3 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, 1 CERULEAN
WARBLER, PURPLE FINCH and 2 PINE SISKINS were among the birds present
this past week.

Opinicon Road
Highlights from along Opinicon Road were 2 TRUMPETER SWANS, 1 AMERICAN
BITTERN, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, both CUCKOOS, BARRED
OWL, GREAT HORNED OWL, EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL, RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER,
YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED
SWALLOW, VEERY, BLUE-GREY GNATCATCHER, WINTER WREN, CERULEAN WARBLER,
GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, 1 MAGNOLIA WARBLER and INDIGO BUNTING.

Wolfe Island
A GREEN HERON was at George Merry Conservation Area.

Other sightings
There was a GREAT EGRET near Parrott's Bay Conservation Area and
another at Landsdowne. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at Collin's
Creek. COMMON TERNS were on nests on Halliday Shoal between Wolfe and
Howe Islands. A PURPLE FINCH and 4 EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILLS were near
Battersea. A MERLIN was seen along Highway 2.

Thank you to those who contributed observations this week. All bird
sightings reported to me are included in the Kingston Field
Naturalists’s long term records database which has over 60 years of
observations on file and is an invaluable conservation resource.
