Birders:
Two Marbled Godwits were seen briefly this morning at about 8:30 a.m., Nov 14,
on the mudflat just north of the lakeside parking lot at Mitchell's Bay in
Chatham-Kent. The two birds were flushed by the arrival of a Great
Black-backed Gull and flew off out of sight. This afternoon at about 3 p.m.,
one Marbled Godwit was back on the mudflat. The other(s) are possibly still in
the area. With the strong SW winds today, there is not as much of the mudflat
available at the moment.
Directions: from Chatham, take Hwy 40 north towards Wallaceburg. After about 12
km turn left (west) onto Electric Line (C-K Rd 42). At the intersection with
Bear Line, jog left (south) for a short distance, and then right (west) onto
Bay Line. Follow Bay Line through Mitchell's Bay to the parking lot at the
water's edge. From the north end of the parking lot, look north to some red and
green channel markers. A small mudflat occurs just to the north of the channel,
and the birds are found in that vicinity of the mudflat. A scope is highly
recommended.
