Weather: Similar to yesterday, the morning began warm and only got warmer, reaching near 90F by the afternoon. A continuous haze was seen along the horizon. Interestingly, a change in the wind strength and direction - a light westerly breeze to a southeasterly wind - coincided with an increase in migrating raptors. Raptor Observations: Overall the migration was much slower than the previous days, with Sharp-shinned Hawks taking the lead, followed by Turkey Vultures. A single push of Harriers provided some mid-day excitement. Several local Bald Eagles were observed throughout the day as well as a hunting Osprey. Non-raptor Observations: Swallows and Cedar waxwings continue to be abundant. Caspian and Forster's Terns were observed in the distance, and several Ruby-throated Hummingbirds "buzzed" over the count site throughout the day. Predictions: Tomorrow's conditions should be similar to today's - with the added possibility of a shower or thunderstorm. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
