Special thanks to Raburn Howland, Pat Mulawa, and Greg Smith for assistance in data collection during the busy hours! Weather: Light winds began from the west during the morning and shifted easterly by the afternoon. Temperatures reached the low 80s F. Cloud cover was moderate throughout the day. Raptor Observations: Broad-winged Hawks came through in big numbers today - 6655 in total. Good numbers of Sharp-shinned Hawks and Kestrels continue, with a spattering of other species to round out the count. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jays continued to move throughout the day, again with many flocks of 100+ birds. Over 1000 were counted before 10:00 am. A nice flock of 11 Blue-winged Teal flew across the count site into the marsh early in the morning. However, the biggest surprise was a non-adult Jaeger that passed over the count site and continued west at approximately noon. Certainly a treat for all in attendance! Species is not confirmed. Predictions: Tomorrow's weather conditions will be similar, sunny and warm, with light winds from the SE. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch (greg_norw...@fws.gov) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
