Weather: Unseasonably warm - reaching the mid-70sF. Winds were from the south, partly cloudy skies and lowering barometric pressure. Raptor Observations: Very slow migration today - only a handful of Sharp-shinned Hawks, a couple of Turkey Vultures (this is probably the first day in quite a while where Sharpies outnumber TVs), and a couple of Red-tailed Hawks. However, we did have a single Golden Eagle - a nice surprise. Our "local" Merlin made a fly-by over Gibraltar as well. Non-raptor Observations: Larger groups of Bonaparte's Gulls were seen, with 21 birds in one group. Also two Common Terns were hunting in the canals. Relatively few Crows flew over today - only around 20-30 birds - a stark contrast from yesterday's 10,000+. Predictions: Tomorrow's weather will be a little cooler, and winds will be primarily SE. There is a chance of rain throughout the day - big numbers of migrants would not be expected. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Detroit River Hawk Watch ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
