This is funny. I once had a very similar conversation with qwest.

me:
"hi my client has an entire class c subnet with you guys, it's
208.46.206.0/24, but some genius on your side just shrank it to
208.46.206.0/27. we'd like that fixed right away."

them:
(long pause) "ok."

me:
"So, this is all you need to do. i've already isolated the problem for
you. this router, with this ip address, right here, has an incorrent entry
in it's table. Just login and change this to this. If it's a cisco router,
the command should look something like this..."

them:
"i'll have someone call you back when we've identified what the problem
is."

them translated:
"we have it under control, even though it's all screwed up and i have no
idea what you just said because i'm an incompitent qwest employee that can
just barily understand what a tcp/ip let alone a router or SIMPLE
subnetting."

me:
"i just _told_ you what the problem was. AND i just _told_ you how to fix
it. look just telnet to this router here and change this to this."

them:
"i'll have someone call you back when we've identified what the problem
is"

them translated:
"i'm still really stupid and have no idea what you are talking about. i
wonder what telnet is? maybe it's one of those non-microsoft operating
systems."

me:
"ok, look, just give me the password to that router and i'll fix it
myself. it's probably 'cisco' anyway knowing how you do things over
there... hmm, well it's not 'cisco'... "

them:
(something very similiar only with a 'sir' added to the end of the
sentance)

and it goes on from there....

conclution, the bigger the isp, the stupider the staff....

cheers,
sach
