grip is awesome (I've only used it under linux so don't know how well
it works on other UNIXes).

It has a friendly GUI and works really well. With grip, you pop a CD
into the drive, it contacts the freedb and gets the title and song
lists, and rips them into MP3s. You can configure the save path with
a config string; I use

Genre / Artist / Album Title / Song Title

which is determined by the config string ~/mp3/%G/%a/%d/%t_%n.mp3

You need a cd to wav converter (eg cdda2wav) and wav2mp3 converter
(eg lame).

http://www.nostatic.org/grip/ has grip in src and rpm and links to the
dependencies.

Here are my install notes for grip

Install order: cdrtools (for cdda2wav), lame, grip

----------------------------------------------------------------
grip:

There is no configure script for grip

Edit Makefile and change the prefix to /usr/local and the make without
cdparanoia (presuming you want to use cdda2wav from cdrtools) with
> make gripnopar
> make gcd
> make install

----------------------------------------------------------------
lame:

lame is a standard configure; make install job

----------------------------------------------------------------
cdrtools:

cdrtools does not use configure.

Edit DEFAULT/DEFAULT.linux and change the install dir from /opt/schily
to /usr/local then

make
make install
