Yes, root is bash and my user account is tcsh (I hope this doesn't
provoke another attack, but I like tcsh).  And the PATH variable is
definitely different when I do 'su' from when I do 'su -'.  

I'll look into sudo -- do you pronounce that 'Sue do' or 'pseudo' or
'Ess You do'?
