It's a wide ranging chat
over time and space
all coming together
in technological embrace

I'm just a brand newbie
who appreciates the techs
as they rant about computers
with the passion of sex

They fix each others' bugs
and they argue 'bout style
and how they can retrieve that
mis-deleted file.

I'm talking about a mailgroup
with no nitwits
a discussion of the gods
it's gaffle's own bits

do do-dah, do do do-dah
do do-dah, do do do-dah

just this morning
i was happy to find
a no-brain needing script
from a bits-er so kind

patching a hole
in the [sic] secure shell
to keep my linux box safe
my super user super swell

but there was a funny line
in the simple execution
that my young eyes noticed
it arroused my intuition

i couldn't see why
there was no dot slash
in front of 'configure'
was it some bullshit with bash?

oh no no no
my tech support mentioned
it means you are open to attack
no matter how good intentioned

and I learned a new thing
and I never felt baffled
until i noticed dissent
that the thread had been gaffled

I saw a man skewered
for his general relativity
a technical argument
that drifted from civility

I know the guy's opinions
and his absolutist stance
that calculus with roman numerals
doesn't give you a chance

was a little confused
that the thread got so heated
with the gafflers united
why he never retreated

but with gentle words by some
and stronger by a few
I'll keep the dot from my path
a secure super-U

this is thanks for the discussions,
the advice and the knowledge
the clever tech solutions
stuff I never learned in college

the Register's fine
squishdot gets a lot of hits
but for the best tech news
it's gaffles own bits.

(a side discussion suggested I should write a rap, and i have a slow
day like a lot of posters...
(hope it's no bother)
