        This is OS dependant, I think.  Red Hat will merrily trash any
        configs you have in /etc at will, while NetBSD will not touch
        files in /etc, period (except to add startup scripts, and even
        then it won't automatically have them boot).  Solaris always
        asks questions, etc.

        They all have different definitions of what goes into /usr/local,
        too (which pisses me off).  /usr/local?  /opt?  /usr/pkg?
        /usr/ports?  bah.

        And don't get me started on differences in sysinit and The One
        Holy Way To Do It.
