Greetings,
Just as a break from the usual stuff - I thought I'd try and start a
discussion on marketing tactics. Obviously, RSP's will want to keep
some tactics to themselves - but I figured it wouldn't hurt to share
some information.
A few questions to consider: What marketing methods have you found
most useful? What's your best search engine? Tried pay-per-click
engines? Have you tried/had much success with banner ads? Have
you tried traditional advertising methods? Any other tips/tricks
for increasing sales?
Just to get the ball rolling:
By far, our biggest friends are still search engines - yet it seems
that the free engines, such as altavista are providing us with the
best results. Some of the pay-per-click engines are ridiculously
over-priced.
We tried banner advertising - and were rather disappointed at its
performance. I guess I shouldn't be surprised - I never click on
them myself. Traditional media hasn't been much help either.
Now for my sales tip... others probably do it already, but if you
don't - I can recommend it. When people register a domain, they
have the select box with 1 to 10 years. Initially - this was set
to default to 1 year. I found that when I changed the default to
2 years - most customers left it at 2 years. Some changed it to
one, but in most cases they leave it at 2.
Regards,
Kirk
