Hello, Greg:
I'm not really the right person to respond, because I definitely do
*not* want more features in BB. In fact, I've not upgraded my version
since 0.50.5.
I love BB for its simplicity and speed, of course. But there's an
underlying reason too: I don't want *anything* on my virtual desktop
that I don't explicitly wish there. So if I want a calculator, or a
calendar, or damned near anything else, I just add it to the (very nice
and dynamically updated) BB menu. Wow, was _that_ ever difficult ! ;)
I agree with you: If it's lots of features someone wants, then perhaps
they ought to look elsewhere. BB does everything I want it to, which is
really damned little. I can't stand desktop environments a la Windows,
KDE, or GNOME. I have no need for them. I do have a need for a very fast
and minimal window manager, and that's why I use BlackBox.
Oh, btw: I'm the author of The Book Of Linux Music & Sound
(http://www.nostarch.com/lms.htm). A big thank you to Wilbert Berendsen
for noticing that BB is in just about every screenshot (and a big thank
you for his kind recommendation too). That book was written when my
operating machine was P166; now I have a nice PIII 550, but I'm still
using BlackBox. No fear, the 2nd edition will feature BB just as
prominently as the 1st. :)
And thanks, Greg, for making BlackBox in the first place (I assume
you're the author ?).
Best regards,
