I agree with them both. I love BB because it can do all the really
needed things, and *them* *only*, much faster and with much less
CPU/RAM resources than others. I don't want this to change.

On the other hand, in some cases I would *REALLY* need some extra
goodies like bbconf/slit/bbkeys, and disagree with the assumption
that:

>...Adding some compile time options should do no harm for anyone, or
>should it?

Why? sometime ago I said on this list that having slit and bbkeys on
my RH 6.2, BB 0.51?? computer would have made my daily job much faster.
(I don't remember the details, please bear with me...)

Unfortunately, I couldn't find all the ready made rpms for that RH
version, and the unanymous conclusion of this list was that I had to
either:

1) upgrade the whole distro,
2) upgrade some C lib stuff
3) do voodoo things on the make file and recompile everything by hand
   until it worked

All very linuxy things to do, but not an option for me, because I
used and use that box for many critical things, and couldn't risk
to screw it up or stop it, even for half a day.

CONCLUSION: I would really appreciate, and think that it could make
almost everybody here happy, if blackbox proper remains as lean and
mean as possible, the other apps remain separate, but, every time it
is upgraded, some pious soul:

1) tests it and all the goodies together, setting up basic config files
2) makes available two or three different rpm/deb/tgz, something like:

bb_061_and_nothing_else.rpm
bb_061_no_taskbar.rpm
bb_plus_slit_bbconf_bbkeys_all_in_one_package.rpm
etc.

What dou you think? Would it make sense?

                        Ciao,
                                Marco Fioretti
