I did use the absolute address as you described it; I was just being lazy
when typing the message.
I reconfigured the mouse using xmodmap and I got the basic blackbox root
menu with three entries: xterm, restart, and exit.

Absolute would be /home/username/.blackbox/Menu .When I remember
correctly ~ is not working (but I never tried).
