Ok, now things are starting to get a little heated. Time to sit back and see
what's come up so far.
Firstly, it seems that there's just a few names that are coming up regularly,
and making the same points. Some of the points are good, some valid, and some
just outright nasty. There's no need to get personal, as this is supposed to
be a list with intelligent people. Or at least, people who would like to be
intelligent. I will leave it to each person to figure out which group they
belong in.
Now before this whole discussion descends into "did not" and "did too", let's
just see what the *rest* of the people on the list think of the ideas.
Remember that it's all of us who make the user base, not just the vocal or
talented. Let's see what everyone else likes, and then discuss the
feasability of the most popular options.
To start the ball rolling, I like the ideas that give the most choice to
those who aren't 100% on how the system works. How else are we supposed to
get people to change to a superior WM if they don't understand it?
I like the close button on torn menus. Or if possible, the idea that a torn
menu can be closed by clicking on the parent menu where it's supposed to be.
What if you lost the torn menu? How are you supposed to access or close it if
you can't get to it? Are you supposed to hunt for 20 mins? Or just restart
the WM? Personally, I haven't lost one yet. But someone might. And then maybe
to indicate on the parent menu that a child is torn, a different symbol.
Instead of an arrow, how about an "!" or "*", just to remind you "hey doofus,
you've torn this off. And now you can't find it, right?", and then you can
hunt for it, or just re-click on that menu item to re-spawn it in it's proper
place.
Now please, no more arguing over the semantics, let's just find out what
people want.
Hopefully a voice of reason,
Speedy

Microsoft is not the answer.
Microsoft is the question.
"No!" (or better still: "Linux") is the answer.
