I remember hearing about this but don't remember if there was a solution.

i will google it.

I have my shelf and CB history panes set to appear when I mouse to the side of the screen (well one on the side the other on the bottom). Do this by dragging the pane so that it's partially off screen. When you drop and move the mouse away the pane will disappear in a second. when you mouse back to that edge it will reappear. This might fix your issue.

Thanks for the solution but
sorry for this long and annoying post.
I am a little confused. (i feel that shelf and CBH are for mouse users) i really hate the mouse. Unless i am surfing the internet or unless i am forced to use it, i never touch the mouse.

Me too.

If you want me to use the mouse for hiding and bringing the Shelf and CBH back then i can do this toggling with the same trigger with which i bring them up. But thats not what i want...even if i hide Shelf and CBH to some corner i will have to use the mouse to see them.

No, the other keyboard methods still work.

As i finished writing the above
I have no idea what i did ( plz let me know if you do ) but now when i invoke my trigger for CBH it pops up neatly from the bottom (left bottom) of the screen and after i finish pasting, it hides itself by going back to the bottom of the screen which is very very nice. (unlike earlier, when it used stay on top of any app that i was using unless i toggled it off with my trigger)

Sounds like you did what I suggested. That's the sliding behavior coming from a screen edge.

However, the only drawback seems to be that i have to invoke the trigger each time if i want to copy more than one item at a time.

It goes away after a timeout. No way to change the time. If you leave the mouse over the panel it should stay up.

Of course if you hate the mouse, don't use it. The manual describes the keyboard triggers I use with the Show Contents action to get access to these from the command window. To select more than one item, use the comma trick.

As far as shelf is conerned, it stays where it was (unless i toggle it off with the trigger)-----annoyingly on top of every app that i am using even while i m typing in Mail (like now).

Put it on an edge like you did for the CBH panel.
