"create editable copy" button

Very basic question: I am trying to change settings on the catalogue
of scanned items. Apparently I can't change the depth of search on,
e.g., the desktop, because default source items are uneditable. So the
guide tells me to use the "create editable button" then edit my copy
to change the scan depth etc. Where the heck is this button?? Thanks
