the current selection proxy only works if I right-arrow in it in the
first pane and find there the actual stuff I have selected. I don't
know if the proxy oject even is to be used directly.
The way I move stuff is by hitting Cmd+Esc with a Finder selection or
by invoking QS and hitting Cmd+G (same effect as typing current
selection to get the proxy and hitting the right arrow key to get the
actual selected items). I also have "Pull selection from front app
instead of Finder" ticked in the Extras prefs. This behaviours is on
both SL and Leopard.
I always thought that the proxy objects where more for utilizing them
in triggers.
