why does QS wake up disks that are sleeping?

When I invoke QS it freezes for a few seconds until all disks are
awake.

Why is that?

Not only it is annoying... those sleeping disks are asleep for a
reason (to save energy). If I'm not searching anything on those disks
I don't understand the need.
