How does the action to show the source work, or how does the process of only 
showing relevant actions work?

I’ve never looked at the former closely, but you can look at the code. I’ve 
very familiar with the latter. The places that define actions can also test 
their applicability based on the things in the 1st and 3rd pane with 
validActionsForDirectObject:indirectObject:
