The current behavior has been tweaked and tweaked to death over the past few 
months, so I wouldn’t expect it to change all that much. But as time goes on, I 
think there will be more and more places that update on-screen when the “final” 
icon becomes available.

We’re doing less work on the main thread, so the UI should be more responsive 
(but probably not noticeably so unless you’re digging through files on an 
external drive). There were some visual problems pointed out with the way we 
went about it at first, but that should be fixed in the next pre-release. Maybe 
that’s what you’re seeing.
