Like I said, some parts of the UI (like prefs and trigger windows) don’t 
currently update on-screen when the icon changes. Only step 1 applies to 
trigger windows. It’s nothing to do with slowness. The other stuff is still 
happening in the background, but you won’t see the result unless you run the 
trigger again. You’ll see the “correct” icon all but the first time, because it 
will have loaded as a result of you running it once.

And to clarify, an AppleScript with a custom icon should be done after step 2. 
It won’t have a Quick Look preview.

There’s no good way to know what sort of disk it’s reading from, and even on an 
SSD, you would not like it if Quicksilver froze while Quick Look previews 
loaded. I promise. :-) The way it works now should be good for everyone anyway. 
We just need to make trigger windows watch for icon changes.
