Ok! That did the trick.

There's always one more issue though: the default action associated with 
the folder (which QS now recognises by its short cut) is "Large Type", as 
if it was a text file. Really, it's a folder, and I can select "open" and 
it opens fine--it just costs me an extra keystroke. Shouldn't the default 
action for a folder be "open"? Perhaps the fact this folder was catalogued 
as coming from a text file has resulted in the wrong default action being 
associated?

Yes, I remember this bug now. So Apple have corrected it in 10.9?
