Just a little info, I know that you are about to release blfs-6.0.
I have successfully compiled and installed xfce-4.2.0 on a lfs-6.0 system with no problems. I followed the directions in the svn version of the blfs book. The only change that I had to make was to install xfce4-panel before xfdesktop.
If it is not too much trouble, maybe consider upgrading the version in the book?
