No, Extras (and your choice of which Utilities to NOT build) are not *required*, but I think they were in the 'core' part of the 3.2 release. > On the other hand, when we look at Chapter 34, GNOME Additional > Packages, are all the packages in Core required? For gnome-games you will need to build clutter which is basically a gnome toolkit (although others might use it in the future). You could also consider trying the unpronounceable aisleriot (solitaire, by another name) on KDE if you want games. In my own case, apart from the test system I'm using at the moment, I don't use gnome, but only a *few* gnome applications (epiphany, evince, gcalctool, gucharmap). Getting them to build and run properly requires "a certain amount" of the gnome packages (actually, I looked at gucharmap the other day, I can run it with the things I've already built for gnumeric, and gcalctool might be similar. Evince probably doesn't need a lot more, but epiphany certainly does, and I can't see anyone using KDE feeling any need to build another pdf viewer or webkit-derived browser. Actually, I might try totem again when I've upgraded one of my machines to something newer. > Perhaps a more thorough evaluation of the gnome organization in the book > is needed, or at least some additional explanation in the introduction. > > -- Bruce If you want to change it, please keep the wiki organisation in sync with it. ĸen -- das eine Mal als Tragödie, das andere Mal als Farce -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
