No, that is absolutely the _wrong_ thing to do. In fact, my earlier example with gvfs was with gio (under the same umbrella). It was GDM that had issues with Console-Kit and the ck-* files (not policy-kit) as brought up elsewhere in this thread. The ck-* programs are installed into a libexec directory and should not be used by any package other than Console-Kit, but Gnome packages have broken this rule until recently (at least I hope they are using the new library in the newer version of GDM for the Console-Kit stuff). At any rate, upstream *is* making assumptions based on the default behavior of Console-Kit, GSD, and gio, and even though upstream remains blatantly ignorant in this case, the proposed change would actually avoid a slightly intrusive patch for gvfs, assuming GNOME_PREFIX=/usr (sorry /opt/gnome users). I have not verified that the problem still exists, just using context from elsewhere in this thread.
Here are some other related bugs to display the problem (and also to support Armin's distaste for non /usr gnome): https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=543064 -- Still broken I think, tell you in a few hours https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596388 -- Fixed https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=554140 -- Still open..no idea if still broken https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18427 -- Fixed Notice my examples all revolve around Gnome?
