I fear I've caused a misunderstanding - gvolwheel is primarily for people who *don't* use gnome. I used to use gnome-media to get a volume control because I was building some of the gnome packages. Before that I used the mixer from kde3, and before that I wasted a whole xterm with alsa-mixer. > > > http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/~ken/tmp/ > > > > This contains the following changes: > > > > 1. new page in chapter 2 to explain static/shared libraries : in the > > book we now often use --disable-static but I don't think we've > > explained why. > > I like this. I need to review my build in the light of Andy's response - at the moment I'm using the netbook while I watch recordings of today's TV, and my notes from April are ambiguous. In a gnome desktop there is a volume control (using pulse) which worked ok when I tried gnome-3.2. I believe kde4 also includes a volume control. > > > > The link to sourceforge for gvolwheel is just weird : open it in > > a browser and you get a list of all the available versions instead > > of the one you asked for. Probably *not* today, I want to sort out why I'm using the 'deprecated' sed in icewm. > > I don't object, but I do care.
