I fear I've caused a misunderstanding - gvolwheel is primarily for
people who *don't* use gnome. I used to use gnome-media to get a
volume control because I was building some of the gnome packages.
Before that I used the mixer from kde3, and before that I wasted a
whole xterm with alsa-mixer.

 None at all.

I need to review my build in the light of Andy's response - at the
moment I'm using the netbook while I watch recordings of today's TV,
and my notes from April are ambiguous.

On my amp I've got a volume control, but I find it easier to keep
that on a constant setting and use the mouse to tweak the volume.

In a gnome desktop there is a volume control (using pulse) which
worked ok when I tried gnome-3.2. I believe kde4 also includes a
volume control.

OK, I'll put the pages up pointing to sf, we can change it when
it's on anduin. Probably *not* today, I want to sort out why I'm
using the 'deprecated' sed in icewm.

 Thanks.
