Hello Armin,

Sorry but after reading the list I have been too chicken to use the latest
version of gcc. I am still using 4.8.2.

This system is systemd and was built using jhalf from the SVN version of
the lfs book.

I am just trying to do a process of elimination to find out why my system
when built following the instructions seems to have its own mind on
things.

The ONLY things that were different about my previous builds were:

1) Seperate /usr partition
2) Had to use initramfs to "hide" seperate /usr
3) Built the ramfs using redhats dracut.

Now I have ditched the seperate /usr and am not using initramfs nor dracut.

Though I don't know how they would have effected things, but there was the
warning that with a seperate /usr that things would fail in mysterious
ways.

I am wondering if dracut was interfearing with some things. Now when I
boot I do not get the error message about not being able to add swap
despite it being mounted there was always that error in the journal log
and displayed at boot time.

I don't know HOW dracut could have been interfearing, as I *believe* that
it is only used in the initramfs and is not running as a process, though I
could well be wrong on that. I have never used it before, and it was one
of the suggested ways of creating the ramfs.

I just wanted it working quickly.

Firefox was crashing multiple times which is just plain annoying.

I compiled this version of firefox with the send crash report enabled, so
if it does its trick of crashing, everytime it will dump the log file on
mozillas lap.

Regards,

Christopher.
