I think that at lease gnome-icon-theme can be archived but I am not
entirely sure.

Hi,
gnome-system-monitor 3.12.2 requires both gnome-icon-theme and (not
mentioned in the book) gnome-icon-theme-symbolic (although perhaps they
are dropped for g-s-m 3.14.0). Also, I believe Thunar 1.6.3 requires
gnome-icon-theme, according to my notes (also not mentioned in the
book). These are the two in the current SVN book that I am aware of.

Although the packages you mentioned have changed that dependency (that
is what I concluded, please, correct me if I am wrong), others still
depend on them, after I replaced all other by adwaita-icon-theme:
gnome/platform/gnome-icon-theme-extras.xml
gnome/platform/gnome-icon-theme-symbolic.xml
xsoft/other/ekiga.xml
The last is the only impeding to archive gnome-icon-theme.
Can probably be archived: gnome-icon-theme-extras and
gnome-icon-theme-symbolic.
