I was *almost* there : installed my theme, switched to runlevel 5 to
invoke sddm-start (as script: dbus-launch sddm) and tested suspend
and reboot - both worked, selected that system on the reboot, logged
in. At that point I researched how to take a screenshot (will need
to be running kf5 and sddm-greeter) :

 sleep 10 ; import -window root myscreenshot.png

looks as if that will do the right thing (tested on icewm from
desktop2, I got a shot of desktop1) - I'll need to go back to
runlevel 3 so I can use kf5 again to run the test.

But first I logged out and tried to shutdown from sddm : failed, all
of poweroff, reboot, suspend no longer work, but login still works.

This is essentially the situation I was in with the elarun theme at
the weekend - those options worked at first, then stopped working.
For the moment,

-ENOTRECOVERABLE
