Summary: Error in plasma-workspace, appeared wirth cmake-3.14
I'm surprised that the problem didn't show up in kf5 or the earlier plasma
packages. I have not built plasma since tests for the 8.4 release and wasn't
planning on rebuilding the next version until May.
The current version of plasma is 5.15.3. Can you check if the problem is
fixed there?
[...]
Ok, I can try 5.15.3. I already have part of plasma installed, but I think I
can remove it with porg. If so, I'll be able to measure disk space. Hmm,
thinking about that, I'm not sure how to proceed: take the maximum of the disk
spaces before each source removal?
This problem is fixed in 5.15.3. It took me some time to realize that some
packages had versions 5.15.13.1 or 2, and that those versions were to be used!
Making another build because I screwed up measuring sizes...
To measure size of plasma, I just take the difference of /opt/kf5 before and
after plasma is installed.
What I did:
echo Start size: $(sudo du -skx --exclude home /)
just after downloading,
then
echo Size after $packagedir: $(sudo du -skx --exclude home /)
before each rm -rf $packagedir.
Then took the maximal "Size after $packagedir" (reached after plasma-desktop)
minus Start Size. This gives me the estimated disk space required (found
around 360 MB)
Then the installed size is computed as you say (found around 260 MB).
Hope it is OK
Yes, it's fine. My build size will actually be a lot larger because I
do not delete after each package. I leave the build directories for
post-build examination. This yields 1.1 GB for build plus 330 MB
installed.
I know this is slightly different from the book, but if users don't have
a couple of GB available for building plasma, then they probably
shouldn't be using a heavyweight DE.
Note that I do the same thing for kf5, xorg-apps, and xorg-libs.
