Which version of gnome?  I have 2.14 going just fine with LFS trunk
from 20060307.

with gcc4 you need a whole slew of patchs and use newer packages from
gnome. one example is control center.  It refuses to compile without
an update version of gnome menu and thats version 2.13.1 not the
latest one.

control-center-2.14.1 worked for me with gnome-menus-2.13.5.  I don't
know if that's the most current menus.  Any particular issues?  I used
one patch on control-center, but it wasn't gcc related.

the one in the blfs book causes a 2 page listing of errors with pango
and xft and freetype. its not pretty to look at.

I haven't had any issues with any of those packages.
