I have followed the book, and I did try to understand the steps I took. Of course I created /etc/nsswitch.conf, the only thing that went wrong was the dns entry behind hosts: files. Those are just three letters I overlooked; considering the amount of typing to set up the system I think my failure rate is not that high ;) If I had just copied and pasted, that problem would not have ocurred, but I learn way better by typing myself. Typos happen ;) Trying to solve the problem, I did not think about the glibc configuration section because I just focussed on network stuff and chapter 7 in general. I would never have had the idea to look at /etc/nsswitch.conf. Also, when I read that section about glibc configuration, there was no explanation or hint as to how crucial for a working network this file really is. > How did you miss this? :-) > Now you know. > JK - I know sh*t happens. And one thing is for sure: That's a fault I'll NEVER do again ;) Regards, Daniel :wq -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
