Hi Lucas,
You the man! I saw a message in the strace output that it couldn't stat
that ~/.kde/socket-systemname but I jumped to the wrong conclusion that
it was a socket not a directory. I created a directory with that name
and started gaim and it keeps running when I send an IM message. Before
I created the directory it would crash when I hit send. I run GNOME and
have only created a few KDE libraries to support a particular
application I thought I needed so running under KDE won't work. Thanks a
bunch for the information. I have AIM up all day at work and I like to
keep GAIM up at home but couldn't since I moved to my new CLFS/BLFS
workstation. It's starting to feel like home. :-) BTW, In case anyone
cares my AIM screenname is ArnStender.
