Hey. I dont know if this will fix your problem but i had the simalar one. Check
to see if you have the following lines in your /etc/profile
export XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/gnome/2.14.3/xdg:/etc/xdg
export XDG_DATA_DIRS=$GNOME_PREFIX/share:/usr/share
This probably wont do squat but it is worth a try. IT MIGHT fix your menu
problem.
