Dear experienced blfs users,
I succeeded (and i really enjoyed it) in building my (french) LFS system and
then decided to move on BLFS (with some minor deviations from what is
recommended in BLFS-6.3). Everything went fine until i started the Firefox
compilation process. The version of
the browser i am working on is firefox-2.0.0.20.
At first glance, there seem to be no particular issue about the compilation
stage in itself. I managed to get some tractable binary /usr/bin/firefox. I
encountered then several
problems when launching and trying to use the application. These are the
followings:
1- IP addresses resolution: achieved but with a huge latency
Have you ever experienced such a problem ? Is there any issue related to the
kernel
IP support configuration ? or with D-BUS ? (i did not installed a system
D-BUS)
or anything-else ?
Note i switched to firefox-3.5 and observed the same latency problems
2- Segmentation faults occuring when installing a flashplayer dynamic
library
in /usr/lib/ /firefox-2.0.0.20/plugins.
/usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.20/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 1579 segmentation
fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
Here is the listing of the initial contents of this directory:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 août 9 03:32 .
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 août 9 03:32 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 15340 août 8 22:06 libnullplugin.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 8276 août 8 22:06 libunixprintplugin.so
The plugin i tried to install is the latest available at that time on
Adobe's site (shipped with install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz)
Is there any compatibilty issue between firefox flavours recommended in the
BLFS (6.3)
book and flashplayer ?
3- A bunch of messages from gdk:
Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_x11_xatom_to_atom_for_display: assertion `xatom !=
None' failed
The gdk library is that shipped with the gtk+-2.16.4 source package. Should
i strictly adhere to the flavour of the gtk library recommended in BLFS
(6.3) ?
I would be glad if anyone could provide some workarounds or suggestions.
After googling a bit i did not see similar posts (which is a bit
frightening). I can send a more detailed listing of my mozilla system or
mozilla configuration if necessary. ( No Desktop environment, running one X
server with fvwm window manager)
Thanks in advance
Regards,
