Yeah, that area is terribly messy, matching required versions together.

I tried playing with Nouveau a few weeks ago, but backed away once I had
X starting successfully. It works, but there were far too many critical
packages pulled from git for me to consider using it for my regular
desktop. Waiting a couple of months, see what the next stable releases
of all those components look like...
