You say you installed the new kernel manually? In that case, you've probably accidentally copied the wrong file - what you think is the 2.6.35.4 kernel is just a copy of the 2.6.27.1 file. Try comparing the file sizes, or checksum them (with cksum or md5sum) - you'll probably find they're identical. Because however much you might insist to the contrary, you *are* booting the older kernel image - otherwise you wouldn't be seeing this problem. The kernel knows what version it is, and if /proc/version says you're running 2.6.27.1, that *is* what you're running. Simon.
