Hi Mike, there is a patch for 2.0.15 at http://patches.bluesquarelinux.co.uk/traceroute-2.0.15-defaults_fix-1.patch which may apply to 2.0.12 too. In the patch you see what happened.
The current version is 2.0.17, you can use this newest version as the one in the book (as xinglp allready mentioned).
